ACCESS
Fast accessibility for emergency scenes by a stream resistant river crossing.
The accessibility is one of the most important key factors of an accident scene. River-crossings are difficult especially in more rural areas with lacking infrastructure. For the access to the victims and a successful rescue the system has to fulfill the requirement of the mobility, meaning easy transport of the components itself and a quick set-up as well as adjustability to various topographical environments. The system “ACCESS” inflates a flexible floating jetty with compressed air locked into place by ropes. That provides a stream resistant crossover and allows a fast transport of injured people as well as the rescue teams and materials. In this project the requirements of secure operations as well as the observations of topographical conditions are addressed. Based on a fertile dialogue with Kiel’s (Germany) professional fire brigade and their practical knowledge, an attempt at a solution for the former elucidated problems has been formulated.
