Ikea Flexible Space
A hideable "walk-in-closet", including a bed and a workstation
Cities are growing and living spaces are shrinking. Ikea's Flexible Space system is a modular set of moveable walls with furniture and added functionality—think walk-in closet—built right into the partition. Like a modern take on a Murphy bed, it lets users hide certain elements when they aren’t needed and change the entire look and feel of a space with a few folds and quick maneuvers. Though Flexible Space is currently just a prototype, the Swedish megastore continues to develop the concept. There have been many iterations of 'flexible spaces' from various designers and organizations, but with IKEA taken part of the movement, this could finally go mainstream - and thereby contributing to people having better lifes in smaller places, making room for more people or even better more nature.
