Designing for a better world starts at school
A unique typology learning environment aiming to teach children 21st century skills
Who says that children learn in the best way by sitting on a chair? The science of learning tells us that people learn best when they learn in different kinds of environments. People need access to five basic environments, or learning spaces in which to operate in order to learn effectively, the Campfire, the Cave, the Mountaintop, the Watering hole and Hands On. Based on these metaphors for learning, Rosan Bosch Studio has developed a unique typology 21st century learning environment that aims to equip children with the soft skills, like creativity, the ability to collaborate and develop themselves that children will need in order to succeed in the future. The physical learning environment is designed as a ‘third teacher’ and supports schools’ pedagogical approach and organizational principles, based on a differentiated learning environment containing learning zones, with room for children to explore an develop their unique skills and best ways of learning.
