Could a renewable energy sharing platform take off?
UK-based startup Open Utility has partnered with Good Energy to launch Piclo, an online peer-to-peer energy trading platform. The aim of the online marketplace, named Piclo, is to provide an ‘eBay for energy’ that could offer more transparency and control than ever before.
Piclo is an online platform that performs peer-to-peer energy matching for your business. It shows which renewable generators you match with and how local they are.
Rather than determine your energy suppliers on a yearly basis, Open Utility’s Piclo would allow customers to be able to receive the best deals on local, renewable energy suppliers every half hour from a network of generator clients selling surplus energy. Other clients include prominent solar farms, customers like schools and office buildings could both use the platform to buy energy and sell unused energy to neighbors during off hours such as evenings and weekends.
