Wintervacht
Transforms unwanted blankets from all across the Netherlands into swaddle-worthy jackets.
Cold winter weather can make it hard to get out of bed, but Wintervacht has the answer to your wish to stay wrapped up in blankets. Since 2013 Dutch designers Yoni van Oorsouw and Manon van Hoeckel have been creating elegant clothes from old blankets and curtains, giving new life to textiles that otherwise would have lost their purpose.
The young designers met in design school. At the time, Manon was living in a house without heating, and would sleep under three heavy, old woolen blankets. She and Yoni were taking sewing lessons from Yoni’s mom when Manon first had the idea to make a coat out of the blankets keeping her warm at night. Yoni drew up a design and with Yoni’s mom’s help, they made their first two Wintervacht coats.
