RAFIKI MOOVE
RAFIKI MOOVE is an e-bike which provides an increase in the quality of life of Komolo people.
RAFIKI MOOVE is a project born through the collaboration between EON electricity and the Man&Mobility Department at Design Academy Eindhoven. EON electricity started a business in a village called Komolo, in the Kilimanjaro area in Tanzania, Africa. EON needed to add some value to their service to compete with petrol energy. We decided to design the new system for local market development. We came with the idea of creating an electric vehicle which can be used in different situations. We focused on two groups of people: average people and farmers or local businessmen. We designed a Cargo E-Bike that can be modified to a Business E-bike. The Cargo E-bike would be rented at the charging and sharing station and the business E-bike, is leased for different periods of time. The station is operated by a local person. We designed the bike in such a way (choice of material is steel, most parts are welded, radius banding is in certain size) that their maintenance could be done locally.
